Here Are 7 Rich And Famous People Who Do Not Give Their Children Money

Everyone’s always jealous of the kid with the rich parents, but being born rich isn’t always a ticket to wealth. After all, not all rich people want to leave piles of money to their children.
And why not? They fear large sums of money will spoil their offspring and ruin their work ethic. They may have a point.
So who is the exception and what is the rule?
Bill Gates
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the world’s second-richest man, told The Sun in 2010 that he will donate most of his money to charity and “give the kids some money but not a meaningful percentage.” He said on Reddit in February: “I definitely think leaving kids massive amounts of money is not a favor to them.”
Warren Buffett
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett plans to donate most of his fortune to charity. Peter Buffett, Buffett’s second-oldest son, told DailyFinance in 2011 that his father “transferred values to me, and not wealth.”
Ted Turner
CNN founder Ted Turner, who has donated $1 billion to the United Nations, doesn’t have much money left for his kids. He told MSNBC in 2010 that he is “almost to the edge of poverty” — that is, his net worth is only $2 billion, according to Forbes.
Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, the late Apple CEO who revitalized the company, said in an interview with Playboy in 1985: “If you die, you certainly don’t want to leave a large amount to your children. It will just ruin their lives.”
George Lucas
George Lucas, the writer-director behind the Star Wars series, doesn’t plan to leave much money for his kids; he is giving most of it to charity. He wrote in a pledge letter that he is “dedicating the majority of [his] wealth to improving education” because “it is the key to the survival of the human race,” according to The Wall Street Journal.
Graham Tuckwell
Graham Tuckwell, the founder and chairman of ETF Securities, who has donated $50 million to Australian National University for scholarships, told the Sydney Daily Telegraph he does not plan to give much money to his kids because “lots of money is poisonous to have.” “If you just give them stuff, it almost destroys their desire to do things and you actually end up with kids who are a lot worse off.” (Hat tip: CNBC.)
Steven Hayworth
Steven Hayworth, ex-CEO of Gibraltar Private Bank, told the New York Times in 2010 that he was glad his daughter was going to work at a clothing store that summer because he wanted her to learn “the value of a dollar.”

I Died for 7 Days; Friends Sold my Properties Hoping I won’t Return but God Saved Me' - Patience Jonathan

First lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Sunday, said she died and woke up during the period of her ailment which necessitated her absence from the country for almost three months.

Nigeria's First Lady opened up on her controversial medical trip last year, admitting for the first time she ailed terribly and was close to dying. Mrs. Jonathan, who spoke at a special thanksgiving service at the Aso Rock Chapel where the first family worships, said she underwent multiple surgical operations and at some point her doctors lost hope after she “passed out for more than a week.” “It was not an easy experience for me,” Mrs. Jonathan told the congregation which included senior government officials.

“I actually died. I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened.” “I am not Lazarus but my experience was similar to his.

My doctors said all hope was lost. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days,” she narrated. Mrs. Jonathan’s remarks at the church service, was the first time the presidency would admit the First Lady was seriously sick as widely speculated in 2012. Mrs. Jonathan was on admission at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Germany for an undisclosed ailment although multiple reports suggested she was treated for lungs and abdominal problems.

While the news circulated, the presidency ensured an anxious public remained in the dark about her condition, repeatedly insisting Mrs. Jonathan traveled for a “deserved rest”. The thanksgiving service was delayed for two months, after the initial schedule was moved due to the helicopter crash deaths of former governor of Kaduna state, Patrick Yakowa, and the former National Security Adviser, Owoeye Azazi. President Goodluck Jonathan, ministers and top government functionaries attended the event on Sunday. During a stirring session, the First Lady narrated how she went through “hell” while in hospital and said she has dedicated her life to serving the needy.

“It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive,” she said. “When God says yes, nobody can say no. People are always afraid of operation (surgery). But in my own case, while my travail lasted, I was begging for it after the third operation because I was going to the theatre every day. It was God who saw me through. I did eight or nine operations within one month.”

While she lay dying in Germany, friends and associates who hoped she will not be making it back to Nigeria with life, scrambled for her properties, selling those they could,” Mrs. Jonathan said. She accused some of those she trusted of leaking information to the public that she had passed on.
“I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. They are people that I trust and rely on. To them, I was dead and I would never return to the country alive,” she said. “Some of them even sold my things off. “I won’t say everything here.” She said she believed she had not completed her assignment on earth, which was why God spared her.

“It was not an easy one. The day I came back, I said God I have nothing to say, I offer myself to you. I will be doing things that will touch the lives of the less privilege. God gave me a second chance because I reached there. He knew I had not completed the assignments He gave me that was why I was sent back,” the First Lady said.

No more sex, no re-marrying –Patience Ozokwor (Mama G)

Call her Margaret Thatcher of Nollywood and you will not be accused of any wrong. In deed, in most of the roles she plays in the movies, she comes across as a no-nonsense woman. But then, many wouldn’t believe that she is direct opposite of the ‘wicked’ character she often potrays on screen.
A day with Patience Ozokwor at her residence in Enugu revealed the actress popularly known as Mama Gee as a devoted Christian and dedicated prayer warrior who would not hurt a fly. The widow and mother of four children was a reporter`s delight as she kept the tape rolling throughout the exclusive interview session. She categorically told The Entertainer that though men do pester her for marriage as old as she is, she has decided not to remarry. Ozokwor, however, maintained that if she comes to this world again, she would choose her husband by herself. The actress bared her mind on a wide range of issues. Excerpts:

Murder for money…Victims of ritual murders tell their stories

Virtually every day, many police stations nationwide especially in the South West of the country are inundated with reports of missing persons.
Available records show that less than 10 percent of such persons ever returned home. A scary 90 percent of them was not found and the bodies of a negligible number that were eventually seen, dumped either on the roadsides, bush paths or inside gutters, mutilated and their vital organs removed.
The only ‘offence’ of the majority of the victims of this cult of Nigerians that incline their hearts to doing evil, is that they boarded the wrong public transport especially commercial buses and taxis to their intended destinations. There are also, cases of trusted loved ones including fathers and children, who hacked one of their own to death for rituals.

INCREDIBLE! N5tn Stolen Under Jonathan's Watch –Investigation

Over N5tn in government funds have been stolen through fraud, embezzlement and theft since President Goodluck Jonathan assumed office on May 6, 2010, a Sunday Punch investigation has found.

Our correspondents arrived at the stolen sum after poring over the reports of the various committees set up by the President to probe some sectors of the economy, particularly oil and gas. Sunday Punch also relied on disclosures by some senior government officials....

Five trillion naira is the summation of government funds said to have been stolen, according to the Mallam Nuhu Ribadu-led Petroleum Task Force report; the Minister of Trade and Investment’s report on stolen crude; the House of Representatives fuel subsidy report and investigations into the ecological fund, SIM card registration and frequency band spectrum sale.

The Ribadu report on the oil and gas sector put daily crude oil theft at a high 250,000 barrels daily at a cost of $6.3bn (N1.2trn) a year. This puts the total amount lost through oil theft in the two years of Jonathan’s government at over $12.6bn (N2trn).

Fraud In Oil and Gas Business
Oil theft is common in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. In June, a special naval team impounded a French ship, MT Vannessa, at Brass Loading Terminal, Bayelsa State, for allegedly stealing 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day from the country.

Our sister publication had reported that the suspects, in their confessional statements, indicted some political office holders, many fuel marketers and some officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Department of Petroleum Resources.

In October, Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, in a letter to the President, said 24 million barrels of oil worth $1.6bn (N252bn) was stolen between July and September.

According to Aganga, his signature was forged on the Export Clearance Permit that was used to export the crude oil from Nigeria.

Confirming that oil theft was depleting Nigeria’s resources, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in May, said the government lost a fifth of its oil revenues to theft in April.

Apart from income lost through oil theft, the Ribadu report also said ministers of Petroleum Resources between 2008 and 2011 handed out seven discretionary oil licences and that government lost $183m (N29bn) in signature bonuses via these deals.

The Ribadu panel discovered that three of the oil licences were awarded under the current petroleum minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who took up her position in 2010. Alison-Madueke, however, denied knowledge of the discretionary awards.

Shortly before the Ribadu report, the House of Representatives had raised the alarm that the N2.6trn the Federal Government paid for oil subsidy in 2011 could not be properly accounted for.

The House said, “Fuel subsidy payments amounted to N261.1bn in 2006, N278.8bn in 2007 and N346.7bn in 2008, but, even after the subsidy on diesel had been removed, the ‘subsidy’ payments jumped to N2.58trn in 2011 — more than 900 per cent of the sum appropriated for the year (N245bn).”

A subsequent report by the Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation of Fuel Subsidy Payments, led by Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, revealed that in 2011, 197 subsidy transactions worth N232bn were illegitimate.

Fraud on the Environment
These frauds are not limited to the oil industry, as similar probes have shown that almost all sectors are involved.

In July, the House of Representatives Committee on Environment discovered a tree seedling fraud worth N2bn awarded by the Ecological Fund office. Chairman of the committee on environment, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, said this during an investigative hearing on the mismanagement of ecological funds for the development of tree nurseries and seedlings in the 36 states.

According to her, out of the N3bn approved by the Presidency in 2010, N2bn was released to the contractors and consultants without government getting value.

Minister of Environment Hadiza Mailafia, however, said the contract was awarded by her predecessor.

Fraud In Telecommunications Sector
The House instituted a probe into the sale of the frequency brand spectrum, which was reportedly sold for less than its value. The 450MHz frequency, which was valued at over $50m, was allegedly sold for less than $6m (a difference of $44m or N6.9bn) by the Nigeria Communications Commission.

In the same sector, the Reps, earlier this year, commenced investigations into the N6.1bn SIM card registration project embarked upon by the NCC in 2011.

The investigation followed the delay in completing the exercise and the request by NCC for additional N1bn for the project in its 2012 budget.

The lawmakers insisted that the NCC had no business embarking on the project since various service providers were already registering their subscribers.

Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Communications, Mr. Usman Bawa, had said, “The NCC has no business with SIM card registration. Apart from that, the service providers have done about 80 per cent of the registration because they started before the NCC. To me, for the regulatory body to be involved in the registration is a duplication of effort, a waste of resources and time.

“Even, the manner with which the bill for the N6.1bn was passed during the Sixth Assembly showed that there was more to it than meets the eyes. From our investigations, from which our report was compiled, our interactions with the NCC contractors for the SIM card registration and the service providers, a lot has been exposed and this was part of the reason why we removed the N1bn that was budgeted for the same SIM card registration in the last budget.”

It would be recalled that the then Minister of Information and Communication, Prof. Dora Akunyili, had, in August, 2010, agreed that the amount budgeted for SIM card registration was exorbitant.

Massive Fraud In Jonathan's Government
Reacting to the massive frauds that have greeted Jonathan’s tenure, Transparency International, told one of our correspondents that Nigeria would continue to slack in development as long as it keeps paying lip service to the fight against corruption.

It said via electronic mail, “President Jonathan should insist that those accused of corruption are properly investigated and punished if found guilty, irrespective of their positions and connections. The judiciary must be seen as impartial and fair.

“To signal a break with the past, the government should set up an independent investigatory panel to review charges of corruption within government and the private sector. President Jonathan should endorse the panel and commit to ensure it has both the scope and the power to investigate and prosecute.

“This is not just a matter of justice; fighting corruption can affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. The current culture of corruption hurts the majority of Nigerians while the inequality gap widens.”

Pat Utomi's Reaction
Also speaking, the Director, Centre for Applied Economics, Lagos Business School, Prof. Pat Utomi, said the spate of corruption in the country was unprecedented.

The political economist argued that prosecution and jail terms for corrupt individuals would not be as effective as building a societal institution that would prevent corruption.

Coalition Against Corruption Reacts
Similarly, Executive Chairman, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said, “For Jonathan to fight corruption, he must start with his cabinet. The way Jonathan is going about his campaign against corruption is not the best way to go about it.”

KPMG's Revelation
A global audit and financial advisory firm, KPMG, had on Thursday stated that Nigeria accounted for the highest number of fraud cases in Africa in the first half of 2012. The cost of fraud in the country during the period was put at $1.5bn (N225bn).

Plans by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, to construct a N4 billion mission house for the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), has been condemned by Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and civil society groups, Thursday, saying it is “a mind-boggling fiscal misappropriation.” Information Nigeria recalls that the fund for the mission house, which was expected to serve as centre to host other African First Ladies, was listed in the 2013 budget of the FCT, Abuja. In a letter read during a protest march organised by...

Imam Rapes Female Student; Blames "The Devil"

A 15-year-old Junior Secondary School Student of Educational Legacy College, Ibadan, was recently molestd by an Imam because she had poor grades.

The 43-year-old Muslim Imam, Isiaka Salimonu, is said to have lured the student with promises of holy oil for prayers to improve her academic performance.

According to Yetunde, the victim, he had made several attempts to lure her previously.
“On 15 December, 2011, when I collected my report card, he was in the mosque and he called me and asked for my report card and I gave him. He said my performance was poor and that he was going to help me by giving me some charms which would help me perform better academically.

He asked her to wait for him twice, she finally agreed the second time.

“He came and told me the charm was in his friend’s house. I followed him and when we got to the house, we didn’t see his friend. He knocked on the door but nobody responded. Later, he told me to follow him to collect the charm; and he took me to a small hut and asked me to remove my clothes. I refused, but he stripped me and molestd me.

"I started shouting for help. That was about 5.00p.m. I was angry and left. He gave me N2,000 but I rejected it. I also rejected the holy oil. When I got home, I reported the matter to my elder brother and it was later reported at the Olodo Police Station.”

The rapist, who has owned up to his crime, blamed it on “the devil”.

Good News from PPMC

Since April 2010 when Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke was appointed the Minister of Petroleum Resources by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Nigerian oil and Gas industry has witnessed rapid transformation.
This transformation is evident in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the industry. For instance, in the upstream, the period has witnessed a steady increase in the nation's daily oil production which is currently put at 2.450million barrels per day.
Similarly, in the downstream, there has been a steady and sustained supply of petroleum products since 2010 not withstanding the political and economic challenges the system had to grapple with in recent times.
Industry watchers have attributed these successes recorded in the oil sector to the team assembled by the Minister of Petroleum resources to man the industry, especially within the NNPC which is headed by Engineer Austen Oniwon.
Nigerians believe the NNPC is working when there is steady supply of petroleum products across the country. The arm of NNPC that is responsible for the supply and distribution of petroleum products is the Pipelines And Products Marketing Company, PPMC.
So in February 2011, when Prince Haruna Momoh was appointed Managing Director of PPMC, he had his work cut out for him.
Coming to head a subsidiary which has a direct bearing on the economic and social lives of Nigerians, and at a time the nation was transiting from one civilian rule to another, Prince Momoh assured every one of his commitment to fulfill public expectation through efficient service delivery to the people.
On the 15th of February 2012, it was time for stock taking at PPMC, and a town hall meeting was organized. Speaking at the event, prince Momoh reminded his colleagues that ''when we took over the mantle of leadership one year ago, we emphasized the need to inculcate in our selves the core values of NNPC. The realization of our business mission was uppermost in our agenda, with the burning desire to reassure staff of our readiness to move PPMC forward as the flagship of NNPC"
Speaking further, the onetime NNPC Group Managing Director's Merit Award winner commended his colleagues for helping to fulfill his agenda, saying, ''your resilience, determination, courage and selfless service to the company provided impetus for the modest achievements we have recorded so far ''
Indeed, there has been a great transformation in PPMC in the last one year and a review of these achievements will reveal that to describe them as modest is an understatement.
For instance, most of the Storage depots across the country that were dried for more than a decade have become wet due to aggressive repairs of the pipelines embarked upon by new PPMC management, especially in the northern part of the country.
These are Kaduna-Jos line, Jos-Gombe-Maiduguri as well as the Suleja –Kaduna Lines. As at the time of writing this, Hydro testing had started on the Aba- Port-Harcourt, Warri- Benin lines and products pumping, we understand, will start immediately after the exercise. While Enugu-Makurdi-Yola , Enugu –Auchi, Benin- Auchi-Suleja lines are currently being surveyed. The re-commissioning of these pipelines has resulted in either delivery or pumping of products to most of the 21 storage depots across the country.
One of the earliest task undertaken by Prince Momoh last year was the introduction of strict internal control s within the system and in less than one year, records have indicated a reduction of 72.3% in-depot loses. Still on mitigation of losses, the PPMC management has successfully reduced demurrage costs to the barest minimum compared to the previous years.
It would be recalled that successive PPMC management have been in a long drawn impasse with chevron Nigeria Limited on the redelivery of MT Oloibiri, but The New Managing Director has resolved it and thereby recovering the sum of $27.7m for the NNPC.
Administratively, Prince Momoh has been commended by his colleagues for his style of leadership. He has been described in various terms such as a 'magician', the right man for the job' and so on, owing to the fact that he has made possible what was thought to be impossible in the recent past. He has also received accolades in the area of staff training, repositioning of the Commercial Division of the company, the computerization of the financial and billing system, among others.
This good news coming from PPMC is a welcome development, especially coming at a time the oil and gas industry is undergoing a transformation. Credit should be given to the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Engineer Austen Oniwon for putting a "round peg in a round hole" by the appointment of the current PPMC management team led by Prince Haruna Momoh

Prostitute Quits Work, Becomes Born Again, Now Looking For A Husband

A Self-confessed prostitute in Zimbabwe has seen the light and is seeking to settle down.
In an unsolicited interview, 34-year-old Memory Mudzinganyama said she was hopeful for a better future. She has also decided to seek sanctuary in church where she plans to be a born again Christian.
Narrating her life story, Memory said she turned to ‘high vending’ after her first marriage broke down in 2002. She was disheartened and had a bad perception of marriage.
“I only left church after my failed marriage. s*x work has taken all my dignity and I want to repent. I have lost respect even from my family,” narrated the ‘retiring’ hooker.
Memory, a mother of two girls aged 13 and 16 said she is searching for a nice man prepared to settle with her and her children.
“I believe God still loves me but what put me off was what people would say when I pass through church doors. It is only hard times that are forcing me to sell s*x. Prostitution is not in me and I have earned many enemies because I get many clients. I am the one who left my husband for his abusive behaviour.
“My other fear is that, different men frequent this place and some of them demand unprotected s*x for more money which might risk me in contracting HIV and AIDS. I am prepared to be tested as many times with my new lover and seek spiritual guidance to be delivered from all I have gone through. I am a sinner, Lord help me,” she said while shedding tears.

Kenyan Rapper, Prezzo has finally broken his silence on the passing of his Nigerian girlfriend, Goldie
In a sorrowful poem shared on his Facebook page he described his pain at the loss of his fellow BBA contestant.
“God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not meant to be. So he put his arms around you, and whispered come with me.
With tearful eyes we watched you, as we saw you pass away.
Although we love you deeply, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best".

Prezzo and Goldie had been dating since their sting in the Big brother house.
