LAUTECH workers begin strike over assault on porter

The Non-Academic Staff Union, Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital chapter, has embarked on an industrial action in protest against the attack on a porter of the institution, Mr
Adubi Akintoye, who was battered by the Personal Assistant to the Chairman, Obokun Local Government Council, Dr Gbenga Ogunleye.
A communiqué issued at the end of an emergency congress called by the union on Monday said legal redress would be sought in the matter.
The six-point communiqué reads in part, “We are embarking on an industrial action even as we demand that the culprit be brought to book.
“The victim must be given adequate treatment and granted a two-month leave to get himself treated for the charms he was beaten with.
“A letter of apology must be written by the council while we set for legal redress.”
Meanwhile, the management of LAUTH has condemned the attack, describing it as repulsive and unacceptable.
A statement by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Mr Ayo Adeyemo, said “Mr Adubi Akintoye is still lying critically ill in the Accident and Emergency ward of the hospital as a result of the
multiple injuries sustained in the attack.
“The matter has been reported to security agencies for appropriate action.
“The matter will be pursued to a logical end with a view to obtaining appropriate redress.
